This weekend we went camping and mountain biking at Land Between the Lakes with a couple of friends from school.

We had found this great backwoods camp site off the canal loop hike/bike trail the week before during a day hike. The site sits on the eastern coast of Kentucky Lake and was going to be an awesome spot to spend the weekend. Unfortunately, we set out too late on Friday and lost daylight as we searched a "short cut" to the site. We ended up wandering around some random field off the 103 in the pitch black carrying about 30 lbs of camp gear each and finally decided that the best spot for our weekend in the great outdoors was exactly where our feet were.

It sure was cold!

Good thing we had several "items" to keep us warm!

It ended up being a nice spot, although we're not sure how "legal" it was! And even more fun, the next morning we ran into a father-son hunting team who informed us it was youth hunting weekend and politely advised us that we should be wearing orange if we wanted to hang around this field!

Saturday morning, Carrie went mountain biking for the first time with David while Brad and Chris still slept. Biking downhill was great fun! Biking uphill was not so much fun. Carrie started out walking her bike as much as riding it, but by the end of the morning, she had gotten used to how to properly work the gears and was able to sucessfully stay on the bike! Carrie had decided that one night in the (cold) wilderness was enough and headed for the comforts of home while Brad, David and Chris stayed on for more mountain biking.

Brad's first experience mountain biking was a little different from Carrie's. ~Stay tuned for an account of Brad's experiences on the trail~
